In WriteZap, you are a Ghost

Last updated: February 9, 2026

Privacy is Our Priority

At WriteZap, we believe your writing is yours alone. We never store, sell, or share your actual writing content. While we do collect anonymized usage metadata to improve our service and power your personal dashboard, your words themselves are never kept. When you use WriteZap, you truly remain a ghost—your content stays private and in your control.

What We Never Collect

We are committed to never collecting or storing the following:

  • Your writing content: We don't store any text you process through WriteZap. Your content is sent directly to AI providers for processing and immediately discarded. We never read, log, or retain what you write.
  • Personal documents: We never access, read, or store files from your computer.
  • Browsing history: We don't track what websites you visit or monitor your screen content.
  • Keystroke logging: We don't log your keystrokes. WriteZap only processes text when you explicitly trigger an action (e.g., a correction or translation shortcut).

Usage Analytics We Collect

To power your personal usage dashboard, show your stats, and improve the service, we collect anonymized metadata about how you use WriteZap. This data is tied to your account and is visible to you in your dashboard.

Important: We only collect metadata (counts, types, app names). We never store the actual text you correct or translate.

For each correction or translation, we record:

  • Event type: Whether it was a correction or translation (not the content itself).
  • Word/character count: How many words were corrected or characters translated, used to calculate your usage stats and time saved estimates.
  • Action type: The kind of action performed (e.g., correct, improve, rephrase, formalize, simplify, or a custom tone name).
  • Application name: Which app you used WriteZap in (e.g., Chrome, Slack, VS Code) so we can show your most-used apps in your dashboard.
  • Translation languages: The source and target languages for translations, used to display your language stats.
  • Timestamp: When the event occurred, used for daily/weekly usage charts and streak tracking.

This data is used exclusively to power your personal dashboard (usage stats, badges, streaks, charts) and to help us understand aggregate usage patterns to improve WriteZap. It is never sold or shared with third parties for advertising purposes.

How We Keep Your Data Private

  • Content is never stored: Your actual writing is processed in real time and immediately discarded. Only metadata (counts, types) is saved.
  • Row-Level Security: Your usage data is protected by row-level security policies in our database. Only you can see your own data.
  • Encrypted in transit: All data between your device and our servers is encrypted using TLS/SSL.
  • No ad tracking: We never share your usage data with advertisers or data brokers. We don't build advertising profiles.
  • Deletion on request: You can request deletion of all your usage data at any time. When you delete your account, all associated data is permanently removed.

Account Data We Store

In addition to usage analytics, we store the following account data to provide our service:

  • Account information: Email address for authentication and communication about your subscription.
  • Subscription status: Your current plan, billing information (processed securely by Lemon Squeezy), and subscription status.
  • Usage limits: Request counts to enforce fair usage limits for your plan (no content stored).
  • Custom tones: If you create custom writing tones, we store their definitions (name and instructions) so they work across your devices.

Third-Party Services

WriteZap uses the following third-party services:

  • AI Providers (OpenAI, Anthropic, Google): Your text is sent to these providers for processing. They have their own privacy policies, but we use API endpoints that don't retain your data for training or other purposes.
  • Supabase (Authentication & Database): Used for secure authentication and storing minimal account data mentioned above.
  • Lemon Squeezy (Payments): All payments are processed securely through Lemon Squeezy. We never see or store your credit card information.
  • Website analytics (Google Analytics, Meta, PostHog): On the website only, we use Google Analytics, Meta (Facebook) Pixel, and PostHog for analytics and product insights. These tools are not used in the WriteZap desktop application.

Data Security

All data transmission between your device and our servers is encrypted using industry-standard TLS/SSL protocols. Your authentication credentials are hashed and securely stored using best practices. Usage analytics data is stored in a secure database with row-level security, ensuring only you can access your own data.

Your Rights

You have the right to:

  • Request access to any data we store about you
  • Request deletion of your account and all associated data
  • Export your custom tones and settings
  • Opt out of marketing emails (while still receiving critical service updates)

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at privacy@writezap.com

Data Retention

We retain your personal data only as long as necessary to provide the service and fulfill the purposes outlined in this Privacy Policy:

  • Account data: Retained while your account is active and for up to 90 days after deletion
  • Usage data: Retained for up to 12 months for billing and support purposes
  • Writing content: Never stored—immediately discarded after processing

We may retain certain information as required by law or for legitimate business purposes, such as fraud prevention and legal compliance.

International Data Transfers

Your information may be transferred to and processed in countries other than your country of residence. These countries may have data protection laws that are different from the laws of your country.

By using WriteZap, you consent to the transfer of your information to the United States and other countries where we or our service providers operate. We take appropriate measures to ensure that your data is treated securely and in accordance with this Privacy Policy, including through the use of Standard Contractual Clauses approved by the European Commission.

Privacy Rights (GDPR, CCPA, and Other Laws)

Depending on your location, you may have additional privacy rights:

European Users (GDPR)

If you are in the European Economic Area (EEA), UK, or Switzerland, you have the right to access, rectify, restrict, object to, port, and erase your personal data. You may also lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority. Our lawful basis for processing your data includes: (a) contract performance, (b) legitimate interests, and (c) consent where applicable.

California Users (CCPA/CPRA)

California residents have the right to know what personal information is collected, request deletion, opt-out of sales (we don't sell your data), and not be discriminated against for exercising these rights. We do not sell personal information and have not done so in the past 12 months.

Data Breach Notification

In the event of a data breach that affects your personal information, we will notify you and relevant authorities as required by applicable law. We maintain security measures and incident response procedures to protect your data, but no system is 100% secure. By using WriteZap, you acknowledge and accept these inherent risks.

Cookies and Tracking Technologies

On the website, we use Google Analytics, Meta (Facebook) Pixel, PostHog, and Vercel Analytics for website analytics and to understand how visitors use our site. We also use essential cookies and similar technologies for authentication and basic functionality.

The desktop application does not use Google Analytics, Meta, PostHog, or any other third-party tracking scripts. However, the desktop app does send anonymized usage metadata (event type, word count, app name—never your actual text) to our servers to power your personal usage dashboard and help us improve the product.

Do Not Track Signals

We respect Do Not Track (DNT) browser signals. The WriteZap desktop application does not use any third-party tracking. On our website, if your browser sends a DNT signal, we will limit analytics to essential, privacy-friendly metrics only.
